{"id":9377,"date":"2020-07-11T12:28:39","date_gmt":"2020-07-11T16:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/132.236.156.160\/cuccap\/?p=9377"},"modified":"2022-08-23T15:16:16","modified_gmt":"2022-08-23T19:16:16","slug":"economics-team-2020-cuccap-progress-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/132.236.156.160\/cuccap\/2020\/07\/11\/economics-team-2020-cuccap-progress-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Team | 2020 CucCAP Progress Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Team members:, Marco Palma (Texas A&amp;M Univ.), Luis Ribera (Texas A&amp;M Univ.)<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0Economic impact analyses, disease control information<\/h2>\n<h3>Perform economic analysis, cost of production\/disease control<\/h3>\n<h4>Define, parameterize, simulate, and validate production variables based on cucurbit production crop budgets<\/h4>\n<p>Completed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Macro and micro economic variables were collected to develop the economic model, such as interest rates, input costs, production windows and existing crop budgets.<\/li>\n<li>Graduate students were selected to work on the project and were trained on how to collect data to develop representative farms.<\/li>\n<li>Faculty and graduate students have IRB clearance to collect information from producers.<\/li>\n<li>Developed 11 representative farms in California (3 watermelon and 3 cantaloupe), Florida (3 watermelon) and Texas (1 watermelon and 1 cantaloupe)<\/li>\n<li>Estimated the economic impact of diseases to cantaloupes, fresh cucumbers, pickles, squash and watermelons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In progress:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying Extension budgets in the Northeast region<\/li>\n<li>Work with CucCap pathologists to estimate yield and quality changes due to CucCap work<\/li>\n<li>Validate economic impact of diseases<\/li>\n<li>Validate all representative farms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Publications<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Economic Impacts of Diseases on Cantaloupes.
