WorldVeg conducts research and<br \/>\ndevelopment programs that contribute to realizing the potential of vegetables for healthier lives and more resilient<br \/>\nlivelihoods.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/avrdc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/%E6%9C%AA%E5%91%BD%E5%90%8D.png\" alt=\"world vegetable center logo\" width=\"279\" height=\"64\" \/><br \/>\nWorldVeg is seeking a Vegetable Breeder to join the center. The position will be based at the WorldVeg Research and Training Station in Kamphaeng Saen, Thailand, and will report to the Principal Plant Breeder &#8211; Cucurbits.<\/p>\n<h2>Responsibilities<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop pumpkin, bitter gourd, and luffa cultivars for multiple market segments targeting smallholder farmers in tropical regions.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments for developing elite climate smart cucurbit lines and F1 hybrids that combine disease resistance with superior fruit quality, high yield, and nutritional value.<\/li>\n<li>Gradually take over the lead of the WorldVeg cucurbit breeding program.<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen WorldVeg research and breeding consortia and coordinate multi-environment field trials in cooperation with public and private sector partners.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to building capacity at WorldVeg and partners in the use of breeding methods, plant breeding software, and data management.<\/li>\n<li>Develop project proposals to raise funds for the WorldVeg breeding program, manage research projects and prepare reports.<\/li>\n<li>Foster teamwork, leading a team of research assistants and field workers and ensuring a cohesive working environment.<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen and nurture the Center\u2019s relationships with the host institution Kasetsart University and WorldVeg partners.<\/li>\n<li>Organize or actively participate in field days, workshops, and training events, welcome visitors, interns, and scientists, and promote WorldVeg as an \u2018Open Science Center\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Publish research in peer-reviewed journals.<\/li>\n<li>Perform any other duties as required by the needs of the Center and as directed by the supervisor.<br \/>\nRequired qualifications, experience, and specific competencies:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Education<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Ph.D. degree in plant breeding or related discipline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Experience<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Vegetable breeding<\/li>\n<li>Hands-on experience in cucurbit breeding is a plus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Competencies<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong skills in genetics, statistics, and experimental design<\/li>\n<li>Strong communication skills in spoken and written English<\/li>\n<li>The candidate should enjoy working with multidisciplinary teams in a multicultural and multinational<br \/>\nenvironment and with collaborators from the public and private sectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Reward:<\/h2>\n<p>This is an Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) position with competitive pay and benefits.
